Timing is key

Transitioning well as a leader requires planning and preparation.
The third key to successful transitions: understanding what the organisation needs now and in the coming season.

Leaving early is better than leaving late (avoids being overthrown, corruption, or a negative legacy).
A good process is well-planned, not rushed:
The new leader shouldn’t feel unprepared.
Create a detailed transition plan with clear phases and timing.
Removes second-guessing and uncertainty.
Timing should ultimately be discerned from the Lord — a peace/settling in the leader’s soul.
Organisations have life stages like people. → Defining the stage is key to preparing the next leader.
The Leadership team should ask: “Where are we in our organisational journey?”
Leaders must stay one step ahead → keep the organisation nimble, mission-focused, and ready for the next stage.
