    Magnetic fundraising by Sara Lomelin

The four components of a giving circle are:
    1. To create belonging
    2. To open space for discourse
    3. Trust (between members, in leaders, and in the process)
    4. Acting in abundance – Going beyond the dollars

Giving circles are so successful because they community-centric while also boosting the donors experience through their giving circle identity and network. It’s a form of social fundraising that builds community, connection, and opportunities for learning, which is what keeps donors engaged and committed to the cause without taxing the organization.

Do not assume who can give and who cannot. Ask more, assume less, and you will be pleasantly surprised.

When building donor relationships, listen more than you talk. Be authentic and caring when connecting to donors. Show up as your full self, so your donors can, too.

When you engage with donors, remind them of their “why”, their mission and their values.

Create moments that your donors will remember.

    Leaders guide questions:

    • Describe the community building efforts of your organisation. What strategies have you employed to engage and mobilise a community of supporters?
    • What new perspectives do you have on community centric fundraising?
    • As you reflect on a strategic fundraising mindset, what should you start, stop and keep doing?
