Moses & Joshua

Joshua’s encounter with God

• Joshua met the “commander of the Lord’s army” (Joshua 5:13–15).
• His strength was not just in strategy, but in hearing God directly.
• Point: Generational leadership must ensure the next leader knows God for themselves, not just organisational systems.

David’s perspective

• David saw life as fleeting (“the span of my years is nothing before you” – Psalm 39:5).
• Though powerful, he recognised his dependence on God.
• Contrast: Some rulers claimed divinity and became corrupt, but David acknowledged God’s sovereignty.

Paul’s example

• Early ministry (first missionary journey): Paul did much himself, with little evidence of developing others.
• Later journeys: Paul intentionally raised younger leaders (Timothy, Titus, etc.).
• He instructed Timothy: “Entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others” (2 Timothy 2:2).
• Lesson: Effective leadership is measured by the leaders you raise, not just what you accomplish alone.
