Considering the stories of mission drift Peter just shared with us, let’s take a moment to reflect on any areas where your organisation might not be mission aligned.

Checklist: List the various activities related to your organisation’s daily operations. Then go through each activity and answer the following questions.

• Does this activity directly serve our mission?
• Does it align with our long-term goals?
• Is it something we would have prioritised in the early stages of our organisation?

What does misalignment look like?

Example: A non-profit originally focused on poverty relief begins prioritizing financial growth over program effectiveness, leading to mission drift. Steps taken to realign might include revisiting core values and stopping expansion until core programs are refined.
