    A negative mindset

Scott refers to the three negative mindsets of fundraising, but what are they? Let’s unpack these mindsets and reflect on how they have impacted our attitude towards fundraising.

    Obligation

When fundraising is seen as an obligation, it is often approached with a sense of dread. Fundraisers may feel like they are pestering people or asking for too much. This can lead to a negative attitude and a lack of success. This ultimately turns fundraising into life draining exercises versus life giving.

    Uncomfortable

When fundraising is seen as uncomfortable, fundraisers may be hesitant to reach out to potential donors. They may worry about being rejected or making a fool of themselves. This can lead to a lack of communication and a loss of opportunities.

    Distraction

When fundraising is seen as a distraction from the important work, fundraisers may be tempted to put it off or do a half-hearted job. This can lead to missed opportunities, a lack of resources and most importantly it leads to a lack of funding.

Think for a moment how these mindsets have influenced your attitude towards fundraising.
