Nature of a Strategic Plan
Three keywords:
- Living – dynamic, constantly updated (not a static shelf document).
- Tool – a practical guide to unify and focus the organisation.
- Choices – about priorities and direction, which may change.
Living document metaphor:
- Like a navigation app → adjusts to real-time changes (crises, opportunities, partners gained/lost).
- Strategy must be reviewed regularly, not just executed mechanically.
Choices:
- Priorities shift with context.
- External events, new opportunities, or God’s direction may redirect focus.
Biblical case study: Paul (Acts 16)
- Clear strategy: gospel to Gentiles, focus on cities, leadership, sound doctrine, follow-ups.
- At Troas → vision of Macedonian man → immediate pivot from Asia to Greece → eventually Rome and Spain.
- Shows core calling + flexibility to God’s leading.
Lesson: Strategic planning = being prepared, adaptable, asking “What’s next?”, while staying true to mission and open to God’s direction.
