Considering mission fit in planned recruitment

Following on from Peter’s story about VeggieTales, take some time to consider the importance of mission fit in planned recruitment within your organisation.

Examples of how mission is incorporated into recruitment

    Example 1: Educational Non-profit

Mission: “To improve literacy in low-income communities by providing access to quality education.”

    Incorporation into Recruitment:

Job Descriptions: Include a statement about how the organisation seeks individuals passionate about education and literacy.

Interview Questions: Ask candidates, “How does your personal mission align with our goal of improving literacy?” or “Describe a time when you advocated for education in underserved communities.”

Onboarding: New hires participate in community engagement sessions where they directly see the impact of their work, reinforcing the connection to the mission.

    Example 2: Environmental Organisation

Mission: “To reduce plastic waste in oceans through sustainable practices and recycling initiatives.”

    Incorporation into recruitment:

Job postings: Emphasise the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness. Highlight that the organisation is looking for team members who are committed to environmental protection.

Interview process: Include questions such as, “What is your personal philosophy on environmental conservation?” and “How would you help us achieve our mission of reducing ocean waste?”

Hiring criteria: Favour candidates who demonstrate a history of personal or professional commitment to environmental causes.
